Get ready to take on one of Interior Alaska’s most iconic winter races! The Tanana River Challenge (TRC) sends runners, skiers, skijorers, and cyclists across the frozen sweep of the mighty Tanana River and deep into the winding Rosie Creek forest. Whether you tackle the 25-mile or 45-mile distance, you’ll experience classic lollipop-style routes, wide-open river views, and quiet, snow-laden woods.

The TRC is a modern revival of the legendary Equinox Ultra-Ski 100k Challenge, reimagined with multiple modes of travel, updated course routes, and enthusiastic volunteer-run aid stations. It’s endurance, community, and true Alaska winter magic rolled into one unforgettable day.

Location

Start & Finish: Tanana Wayside boat launch, Chena Pump Road, Fairbanks

Start Times

• 8:00 AM – All 45-mile racers

• 9:00 AM – 25-mile skijorers

• 10:00 AM – 25-mile skiers, cyclists & runners

All racers must check in 45 minutes before their start and attend a mandatory pre-race meeting 30 minutes prior.

Cost

2026 race fees will be announced later this year.

Cutoff Time

All racers must be off the course by 7:00 PM.

After-Race Party

Celebrate your accomplishment with fellow racers at 7:00 PM at the Ken Kunkel Community Center (2645 Goldstream Road). Warm vibes, good stories, and a great community guaranteed.

Evacuation & Policies

• Racers requiring evacuation will be charged a $100 fee.

• Skijorers: Dogs may not be dropped along the course. If you leave the race, you are responsible for transporting your dogs.

• Race capacity: 120 participants. If full, race-day openings are first-come, first-served—register early!

• Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable.

• You may switch distances/divisions on race day at check-in. (If moving from 25 → 45 miles, you must pay the difference. No refunds for switching down.)
