Locavore is 2007 word of the year
The New Oxford American Dictionary chose locavore, a person who seeks out locally produced food, as its word of the year. The local foods movement is gaining momentum as people discover that the best-tasting and most sustainable choices are foods that are fresh, seasonal, and grown close to home. Some locavores draw inspiration from the 100-mile diet or from advocates of local eating like Barbara Kingsolver. Others just follow their taste buds to farmers' markets, community supported agriculture programs, and community gardens. Check out Local Harvest to find sustainably grown food near you, and make a New Year's Resolution to be a locavore in 2008!
Morgan Macchione
Morgan has lived in the Fairbanks Community for the past 27 years. She has 12 years of progressive accounting and bookkeeping experience, 8 years experience in Office Management, 4 years experience as General Manager of an Alaskan construction company where she managed over 40 employees and a fiscal budget in excess of a million dollars. Morgan holds a current State of Alaska Real Estate license, and has been selling residential Real Estate in the Fairbanks/North Pole area for 2.5 years.
Having 3 children, Morgan has a vested interest in the health and wellbeing of her family, and also in the sustainability of the food products she and her family consume.
